RSI: 2Q railcar orders, deliveries flex muscle

The Railway Supply Institute on Friday, July 18, 2014, released its railcar industry order, delivery, and backlog statistics for the second quarter, with the data showing strong growth, which one analyst attributes largely to ongoing crude-by-rail (CBR) developments.

Stage set for RSI/CMA 2014, Canadian Rail Summit

Conference registration and hotel reservations have begun for RSI/CMA 2014, the Railway Supply Institute’s (RSI) annual trade show and conference, to be held in conjunction with the Railway Association of Canada’s (RAC) Canadian Rail Summit. The events take place Sept. 21-23, 2014, at the Palais des congrès de Montréal (Montréal Convention Center) in Montréal.

Exhibit space sales for RSI/CMA 2014, the Railway Supply Institute’s annual trade show, will begin Monday, March 17, 2014. Sponsorship sales for both RSI/CMA and Canadian Rail Summit 2014, hosted by the Railway Association of Canada, will also open March 17.

Railcar 4Q production, backlog stay strong

Fourth-quarter railcar orders, deliveries, and backlogs showed robust activity, according to the Railway Supply Institute’s American Railway Car Institute Committee (ARCI) data released Thursday, Jan. 23, 2014. Tank cars, in particular, continued to show robust activity.

RSI to SecDOT: Include us re: CBR

The Railway Supply Institute (RSI) is urging Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx to include tank car manufacturers and other parties in any effort to improve tank car safety, particularly when related to crude-by-rail (CBR) developments.

RSI accepting 2014-2015 scholarship applications

The Railway Supply Institute (RSI) is now accepting 2014-2015 school year applications for the RSI Scholarship Program, which provides a minimum of five $5,000 scholarships each year. Since 1989, RSI has awarded more than 100 scholarships. Recipients have been college students pursuing degrees in a variety of fields, among them nursing, teaching, engineering, business, and transportation.

RSI committee offers tank car recommendations

The Railway Supply Institute Committee on Tank Cars (RSICTC) is urging the federal Department of Transportation’s Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) to support rulemaking that would enhance the safety of the North American tank car fleet.

RSI and REMSA: Big Brazil business for U.S.

The USA Pavilion at last month’s Business on Rails (NT Expo) trade show in São Paulo, Brazil, co-hosted by Railway Engineering-Maintenance Suppliers Association (REMSA) and The Railway Supply Institute (RSI), “was such a success that more exhibit space has been reserved for next year’s NT Expo,” representatives said Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2013.

U.S. suppliers to expand InnoTrans presence

The U.S. railway supply industry, through its principal trade and professional associations, will be increasing its presence at InnoTrans 2014, with a goal of increasing export business. Over the period from 2008 to 2012, the number of U.S. exhibitors at the semi-annual InnoTrans exhibition more than doubled. At InnoTrans 2014, which takes place at Berlin ExpoCenter City from Sept. 23 to 26, the U.S. rail industry will be participating in even larger numbers.
