NJ House rep seeks more rail oversight

Rep. Robert E. Andrews (D-N.J.) has introduced a bill calling for independent oversight of railroads and particularly railroad infrastructure, arguing that U.S. freight railroads aren’t pursuing adequate safety measures.

NS achieves best-ever CDP score

Norfolk Southern said Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2013, it has achieved its best-ever score in CDP (Carbon Disclosure Project) reports that grade large U.S. and global companies on how well they measure and manage their carbon footprint.

Norfolk Southern dedicates yard in honor of H. Craig Lewis

Norfolk Southern has renamed its Dillerville Yard in Lancaster, Pa., in honor of former vice President Corporate Affairs and Pennsylvania State Senator H. Craig Lewis, who died unexpectedly on Jan. 13, 2013, at age 68. After serving as state senator for the 6th District in Bucks County for five terms (1975-1994), Lewis joined NS in 1997, retiring from the railroad in 2009.

NS sports solid 3Q earnings

Norfolk Southern Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013 reported third-quarter net income of 482 million, up 20% from the $402 million reported in the third quarter of 2012. Diluted earnings per share were $1.53, up 23% compared with $1.24 per diluted share in comparable quarter last year.

NS surpasses “pier without peer” coal record

Norfolk Southern said Monday, Sept. 23, 2013 it had again notched a new record for coal transloading at its Pier 6 at Lambert Point facility in Norfolk, Va., loading a record amount of coal into a single ocean-going vessel.
