Cassity appointed as Group Executive VP of Parsons Infrastructure

Parsons has appointed Patrick A. “Pat” Cassity as Group Executive Vice President of Parsons Infrastructure, the company announced Jan. 5, 2016. Parsons Infrastructure, a business unit of Parsons Corporation, provides its customers with full-service engineering and management services in the aviation, rail and transit, transportation-related systems, and bridge and tunnel markets. In his new role, Cassity will lead Parsons Infrastructure’s global operations and support business development and strategy.

Gov. Cuomo announces details for proposed LIRR expansion

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo unveiled on Jan. 5, 2016 the second signature proposal of his 2016 agenda: a comprehensive plan to transform and expand vital infrastructure downstate and make critical investments in the region, including a major expansion and improvement project that would increase service on the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) between Floral Park and Hicksville. Cuomo outlined these initiatives at an event in Nassau County, where Long Island Association President Kevin Law, MTA Chairman Thomas F. Prendergast and LIRR President Patrick Nowakowski joined him.

NRC selects Laurello for Hall of Fame

The National Railroad Construction & Maintenance Association (NRC) on Dec. 17, 2015 announced that Cosmo Lawrence “Larry Sr.” Laurello of Delta Railroad Construction, Inc. in Ashtabula, Ohio, has been unanimously selected by the Executive Committee as this year’s only entrant into the NRC Hall of Fame. He will be recognized at the 2016 NRC Conference in San Diego, Calif., on Jan. 9.

Caltrain approves fare hikes to meet rising costs of rail operations, maintenance

Caltrain’s Board of Directors approved on Dec. 3, 2015 an increase to the adult base fare by 50 cents, effective Feb. 28, 2016. As a result, the amount paid for the day pass, 8-ride tickets and monthly passes will increase. Eligible discount fares will remain at 50% of adult ticket prices, and Clipper cardholders will continue to get an approximate 15% discount, Caltrain says.

Work progresses on MRL’s Spurling track project

Montana Rail Link (MRL), a Class II regional railroad that operates over 900 route miles of track in Montana and Idaho, is currently constructing four tracks west of Laurel, Mont. at Spurling to be used as a staging area for westbound trains. The 12-month project is in the construction phase and is expected to be completed in the spring of 2016.
