BMC acquires transload facility from Di-Corp

Badger Mining Corporation (BMC), a family-owned industrial sand supplier based out of Berlin, Wis., announced Oct. 14 a further commitment to the Canadian market with the asset acquisition of Di-Corp’s state-of-the-art transload facility in Sexsmith, Alberta, Canada, located 12 miles north of Grand Prairie, Alta.

CN: 1.2 million trees and growing

CN announced Sept. 26 that 50 communities across Canada will be awarded grants of $25,000 to fund local tree planting projects in honor of the nation’s 150th anniversary. Since 2011, CN-sponsored programs have accounted for more than 1.2 million tree plantings.

Fox Creek home to new transload site

ERAC and CN conducting rail emergency training exercise

Emergency Response Assistance Canada (ERAC), in conjunction with CN, announced Sept. 15 it conducted a rail emergency exercise as part of ongoing ERAC responder training in the event of an incident involving a railcar carrying flammable liquids or gas.

CDPQ reaches Montreal track agreement with CN

Canadian pension fund Caisse de Dépôt et Placement du Québec (CDPQ) Infra has reached an agreement with CN to purchase infrastructure for its planned 41.5-mile (67 km) Metropolitan Electric Network (REM) automated metro project in Montreal.

CN, ADM and Midwest Inland Port grow intermodal in Decatur, Ill.

Archer Daniels Midland Company and the Midwest Inland Port announced August 23 that their collaborative logistics and marketing efforts are driving increased container shipments over ADM’s privately owned intermodal ramp located in Decatur, Ill.

CN operating ratio: 54.5%

In the midst of what CN President and CEO Luc Jobin called “a very challenging volume environment” that saw second-quarter declines in revenues and operating income, the railroad posted an operating ratio of 54.5%—a second-quarter record and an improvement of 1.9 points over the prior-year quarter.
