For U.S. rail freight, more of the same mix

The Association of American Railroads Thursday once more reported mixed U.S. weekly rail traffic, this time for the week ending Nov. 24, 2012. U.S. freight carload traffic fell 4.6% measured against the comparable week in 2011, but U.S. intermodal volume continued its momentum, up 1.9% for the week.

Rail fracas not part of Toronto mayor’s ouster

A judge Monday ruled that Toronto Mayor Rob Ford violated conflict of interest laws and therefore cast the mayor out of office. But Ford’s preference for subways instead of light rail transit, a hot political issue in Toronto throughout 2012, does not appear to be a factor in the judicial decision.

REMSA names new officer/director slate

The Railway Engineering-Maintenance Suppliers Association (REMSA) on Monday announced its new slate of officers and directors for 2013. REMSA Executive Director David Soule said that, as of Jan. 1, 2013, John Fox, vice president of Marketing and Sales, NARSTCO, will become REMSA’s president.

Amtrak names two to senior operations posts

Amtrak on Monday named Bruce Pohlot as the new chief engineer, and named Tom Quigley general manager, State-Supported Services. Both will report directly to DJ Stadtler, vice president of operations effective Dec. 10, 2012.
