Amtrak takes charge of Empire Corridor stretch

Delayed by one month at least in part due to Hurricane Sandy, Amtrak and the state of New York announced Tuesday Amtrak assumed control from CSX Corp. of the Empire Corridor right-of-way between Schenectady and Poughkeepsie, N.Y, which also includes Albany, the state capital.

GWI line signs pact to serve natgas liquids hub

Genesee & Wyoming Inc. said Monday that its wholly owned subsidiary, the Columbus & Ohio River Rail Road Co. (CUOH), has signed a long-term agreement to serve the $900 million natural gas liquids (NGLs) fractionation hub being constructed in Scio, Ohio, by Utica East Ohio Midstream, LLC.

Train plunges off rail bridge in New Jersey

A bridge accident in Paulsboro, N.J., early Friday morning caused at least three cars of an 84-car Conrail Shared Assets train to fall into Mantua Creek. At least one car was leaking vinyl chloride, a toxic and flammable substance. The incident is under investigation.

Metrolinx OKs Mississauga LRT plan

Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area transport agency Metrolinx Thursday signaled its official support for light rail transit beyond the traditional Toronto market, approving plans for a 14.2-mile, C$1.6 billion light rail line in Mississauga, Ontario, west of Toronto.
