BNSF on Jan. 11 announced that it has completed a record year for workplace safety in 2023, with the lowest injury frequency rate in the company’s 175-year history.

OptiFuel to Begin Testing New Locomotive, Tender Prototypes

OptiFuel Systems (OptiFuel) announced Jan. 11 that it will begin testing a 5600 hp Total-Zero™ Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) Line Haul Locomotive and 2500 hp Total-Zero™ Powered Tender with 7,500 DGE (diesel gallon equivalent) capacity, in January 2025.

Israel-based technology company Rail Vision Ltd. (Rail Vision) announced Jan. 9 that it has established a $6 million credit facility and an additional amount of up to $3 million, subject to certain conditions, with a global investment firm.

U.S. Rail Traffic Boost Continues in First Week of 2024

For the week ending Jan. 6, 2024 (Week 1), total U.S. rail traffic was 417,257 carloads and intermodal units, rising 2.3% from the prior-year period, the Association of American Railroads (AAR) reported Jan. 10.
