FTA tightens safety screws on WMATA

The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) on May 7, 2016 issued an “urgent safety directive” to the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) just one day after the agency released a plan aimed at improving safety and maintenance on its Metrorail system.

OUTFRONT Media, WMATA build on digital advertising partnership

OUTFRONT Media Inc., announced on March 24, 2016 the next deployment of its ON Smart Media platform with the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA), expanding the long-term relationship between OUTFRONT and the agency. The new high-function ON Smart Media displays were installed Wednesday, March 23 at the entrance/exit way of the Green Line’s Navy Yard station, one block away from Nationals Park.

WMATA imposes 29-hour Metrorail safety shutdown

A major electrical cable fire in a tunnel just outside the Washington Metro McPherson Square station early Monday, March 14, 2016 has led to the entire Metrorail system shutting down for a 29-hour period beginning March 16 at 12:00 a.m. for emergency safety inspections of third-rail power cables.

Wiedefeld picked as WMATA GM and CEO

Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) has named Paul Wiedefeld to become its new General Manager and Chief Executive Officer. Wiedefeld is expected to be formally appointed at WMATA’s Nov. 19 board of directors meeting.
