STB Denies Request to ‘Stay’ Requirement That Class I’s Commit to Arbitration Program (Updated)

CSX, Norfolk Southern (NS), Union Pacific (UP) and the U.S. operating subsidiaries of CN on Dec. 29, 2022 requested that the Surface Transportation Board (STB) stay its requirement that the Class I railroads commit to a new arbitration program for small rate disputes. STB on Jan. 23, 2023 denied the request.

UP 4Q22: Elevated Operating Expenses ‘More Than Offset’ Revenue Growth (UPDATED, Cowen)

Union Pacific (UP) grew carloads in fourth-quarter 2022 as it “continued to face challenges hiring craft professionals in critical locations and experienced the impact of extreme winter weather” in December, Chairman, President and CEO Lance Fritz reported Jan. 24. As a result, he said, “revenue growth was more than offset by elevated operating expenses from operational inefficiencies and a higher inflationary environment.”

STB: ‘Transparency Should Be Pursued’

The Surface Transportation Board (STB) on Jan. 20 denied Union Pacific’s (UP) motion for a protective order regarding documents requested at a hearing on the railroad’s institution of embargoes.

Anheuser-Busch, UP, Doll Distributing Partner for Wholesale Delivery

Anheuser-Busch recently teamed with Union Pacific (UP) and beverage distributor Doll Distributing to transport product from its breweries in Colorado and Missouri to wholesalers nationwide, UP reported on its website.

The team at CSX Memphis Intermodal Terminal (pictured) recently achieved 14 years without an Occupational Safety and Health Administration-recordable injury.
