Kentucky’s transportation officials are completing the 2024 Statewide Rail Plan and invite the public to provide feedback to help guide freight and passenger rail planning and project development needs through 2045.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet and North Carolina Department of Transportation’s (NCDOT) Rail Division have awarded $7.5 million and $12.9 million, respectively, to rail projects at short lines and ports in their states.
Grants totaling $1.25 million will go toward safety improvements at 11 highway/rail grade crossings in eight Kentucky counties. Five of the crossings are in communities served by Norfolk Southern (NS).
