The Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) further increases service and revises schedules. Also, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey’s (PANYNJ) PATH commuter rail system records its busiest July 4th since 2013; CapMetro launches a newly formed Transit Police Department; and the New Orleans Regional Transit Authority (RTA) finalizes a Cooperative Endeavor Agreement (CEA) with the City of New Orleans for the agency’s Opportunity Pass pilot program.

Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) begins a second run of vehicle testing on the Silver Line Regional Rail alignment. Also, LA Metro ridership grows 8.2% in July; Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) begins the installation of a third set of Next Generation Fare Gates; the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (SCVTA) unveils a project microsite for the BART Phase II Extension Project; KC Streetcar begins test runs; and the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) begins modernizing the streetcar power network on Queens Quay and Fleet Street.

Amtrak celebrates the 34th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Also, Chicago’s Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) reports that systemwide ridership through May is up 14% year-over-year; and the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) introduces 305 Dundas all-night streetcar service.

Amtrak and CSX team on a Positive Train Control (PTC) installation between Haverhill, Mass., and Brunswick, Maine. Also, Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) addresses “systemic racism within the transit system”; and Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority’s (WMATA) Takoma Station is reopening early with new amenities and a rebuilt interlocking.

TTC’s Leary Stepping Down

Boston-native Rick Leary has announced his resignation, effective Aug. 30, as CEO of Toronto Transit Commission (TTC), after more than six years leading the Ontario, Canada, agency that has grown since 1921

NJ Transit cuts the ribbon on the fully renovated Elizabeth Station. Also, members of ATU Local 113 vote in favor of ratifying a new contract with the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC); a Denver Regional Transportation District (RTD) parking lot will soon transform into 62 affordable condominiums; the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) offers a new development opportunity in Washington, D.C.’s historic Deanwood neighborhood; and LA Metro joins Abode Communities to welcome families to new homes in Boyle Heights.

The Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) announces the return of streetcar service on St. Clair Avenue. Also, LA Metro ridership growth continues for the 18th consecutive month; and the third rail for the second operating segment of the Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation’s (HART) Skyline rail system is now energized.

Transit Briefs: OC Transpo, UTA, Detroit People Mover/TTC, Caltrain

OC Transpo provides a progress update on all three O-Train extensions and an overview of efforts under way to improve the service reliability of O-Train Line 1. Also, the Utah Transit Authority (UTA) plans to extend FrontRunner train service to Payson; the Detroit People Mover will receive new railcars from the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC); and Caltrain runs eight trains simultaneously on its newly completed corridor.
