Transload facility to aid North Dakota rail moves

Dakota Plains Holdings, Inc. and a joint-venture partner, Petroleum Transport Solutions, LLC, said Friday construction is under way for the Pioneer Project, designed to expand crude oil transload capacity in New Town, N.D. Canadian Pacific will serve the facility.

AAR spurns NITL’s mandatory switching proposal

A statement released Friday by the Association of American Railroads commented unfavorably on a proposal by the National Industrial Transportation League (NITL) for mandatory switching, which AAR asserted “would harm all rail network users.”

NS to discontinue some Roanoke operations

Norfolk Southern said Monday it will cease regional railcar classification operations at its Roanoke Terminal hump yard in Roanoke, Va., effective immediately. The move will eliminate 140 positions, NS said.

STB keeps rate-case fees low

The Surface Transportation Board’s latest update of fees shippers must pay to file cases and pleadings, released Friday, contains some increases but leaves unchanged the current $350 fee charged shippers to file a rate complaint, as well as the current $150 fee to file an expedited small rate case. The board reduced both fees last year.
