Green new Jaxport CEO

The Port of Jacksonville Port Authority Board of Directors unanimously voted to hire longtime Jaxport executive Eric Green as Chief Executive Officer. Green had served as interim CEO since March.

Amtrak CUS Great Hall work under way

Amtrak’s $22 million project to restore and improve historic Chicago Union Station’s Great Hall is under way. The year-long project will result in a public space painted in its original colors, and made brighter by a restored and protected skylight with improved lighting.

CSX, industry promote Rail Safety Week

Jacksonville-based CSX this week is partnering with Operation Lifesaver and the rail industry on Rail Safety Week Sept. 25-30, to raise public awareness about how to be safe around railroad tracks.

CSX makes Dow Jones Sustainability Index

Even as some of its customers wait for their objections to service issues to be sustained, CSX was named to the Dow Jones Sustainability Index for North America for the seventh consecutive year.

CSX restores service post-Irma

CSX reports that it “rapidly restored service throughout the areas affected by Hurricane Irma,” which struck Florida on Sunday, Sept. 10, with devastating winds and flooding. The railroad says it re-established rail service “in most of the southeast U.S. within hours, into and out of northern Florida within 24 hours, and throughout the vast majority of the state within one week.”

NTSB dockets opened for NJT, LIRR crashes

Dockets for the fatal Sept. 29, 2016, NJ Transit commuter rail collision in Hoboken, N.J., and the Jan. 4, 2017, Long Island Rail Road collision at the Atlantic Terminal, Brooklyn, New York, were opened to the public Sept. 21 by the National Transportation Safety Board as part of its ongoing investigations of the two accidents.

Metra, CN replace Rock Island track
