Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) is restoring all morning express trips on Regional Rail as more Silverliner IVs return to service. Also, STM (Société de transport de Montréal) releases its 2026 budget and 2026-2035 Capital Investment Program; the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LACMTA) Board will consider advancing the C Line Extension to Torrance and the Sepulveda Transit Corridor projects; and NC By Train in North Carolina breaks its ridership record for the fourth consecutive year.

LA Metro’s TAP-to-Exit program returns to North Hollywood and Union Station. Also, Jacobs and Kittelson secure a new planning contract with the Maryland Transit Administration (MTA); and the Montreal transit strike comes to an end as the Société de transport de Montréal (STM) maintenance workers’ union suspends work stoppage.

Société de transport de Montréal (STM) in Canada seeks an end to the Metro and bus strikes. Also, Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) will offer 24-hour rapid transit service to Midway Airport; Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) in North Carolina is providing mobile transit passes to community members with SNAP and WIC benefits; and the government of Canada’s Budget 2025 proposes a renewal of the Canada Strong Pass for the holiday season.

LA Metro’s ridership holds strong amid regional challenges. Also, Société de transport de Montréal’s (STM) strike could be the first test of a new Quebec labor law; and the Regional Transportation Authority (Chicago, Ill.) walks back 2026 fare increases for the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) and Metra.

The METRO Green Line Extension in Minneapolis marks a milestone. Also, final testing is under way for Sound Transit’s Federal Way Link Extension in Seattle and is complete for Metrolinx’s Finch West LRT project in Ontario, Canada; Southern California’s Metrolink expands its “smart” crossing technology; Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) postpones bus purchases, a station accessibility project, and the Frazer Railroad Facility expansion; and STM (Société de transport de Montréal) pursues mediation to avoid metro and bus driver strikes.

Also, Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) successfully completes the installation of its Next Generation Fare Gates at all stations months ahead of schedule; the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) delivers $120 million in savings and record ridership in FY2025; and Montrealers face transit disruptions as the Société de transport de Montréal (STM) and maintenance workers continue talks.

Also, PATH delivers 70% of pre-pandemic annual ridership; crime on Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) drops 17% compared with last year; and Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro proposes to send nearly $300 million to public transit agencies as he works to “stave off cutbacks” by the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA).
