NCCC Reaches Tentative Agreements With SMART-TD, Yardmasters

The National Carriers Conference Committee (NCCC) on Sept. 16 announced that it has reached a national tentative agreement with the International Association of Sheet Metal, Air, Rail and Transportation Workers – Transportation Division (SMART-TD), the nation’s largest rail union, as well as a separate tentative agreement with the union’s Yardmasters, “representing a major step forward in both wages and quality of life improvements.”

Transit Briefs: San Diego MTS, DCTA, Keolis

New San Diego Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) survey results show strong customer satisfaction. Also, the Denton County Transit Authority (DCTA) will extend the A-train to the Downtown Carrollton Station; and the International Association of Sheet, Air, Rail and Transportation Workers – Transportation Division (SMART-TD) ratifies a tentative agreement with Keolis Commuter Services.

CN and Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) reach tentative collective agreements with the International Brotherhood of Electric Workers (IBEW) and Unifor, respectively, averting strikes. Also, Connecticut Southern Railroad (CSO), a Genesee & Wyoming subsidiary, joins the International Association of Sheet Metal, Air, Rail and Transportation Workers– Transportation Division (SMART-TD).

For House Rail Subcommittee, An Earful on Rail

Rail industry stakeholders on Jan. 23 outlined their priorities and suggestions for potential surface transportation legislative proposals in the 119th Congress during a hearing of the House Committee on Transportation & Infrastructure, Railroads, Pipelines, and Hazardous Materials Subcommittee. Among the key topics: support for and streamlining of programs that help build and improve U.S. rail infrastructure, such as CRISI, plus the use of technology to boost safety.

SMART-TD Dining Car Stewards Ratify Tentative Agreement

Dining Car Stewards represented by the International Association of Sheet Metal, Air, Rail and Transportation Workers – Transportation Division (SMART-TD) have voted unanimously to ratify a tentative agreement with Amtrak spanning seven years from July 1, 2022, through Dec. 1, 2028.
