ACS-64 technical support agreement under way

The Siemens Infrastructure & Cities Sector, Rail Systems Division has begun its 15-year technical support and spare parts supply agreement with Amtrak for the new ACS-64 electric locomotives in operation on the Northeast Corridor. The first of 70 units entered revenue service in February 2014.

The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) has issued a Notice of Intent to Award to Siemens Rail Systems USA for approximately 35 high-performance diesel-electric locomotives for several Midwestern and West Coast states using funds from the U.S. Department of Transportation. IDOT is leading the multi-state locomotive procurement on behalf of the Departments of Transportation from Illinois, California, Michigan, Washington, and Missouri.

Siemens, Cummins team for Tier 4 passenger locomotives

Siemens Rail Systems and Cummins jointly announced a partnership on Dec. 3, 2013 that they said “will bring one of the most modern and efficient passenger rail, diesel-electric locomotives in the world to the U.S. marketplace.”

Amtrak ACS-64 begins NEC testing

One of three Amtrak ACS-64 (Amtrak Cities Sprinter) electric locomotives from Siemens Mobility, no. 602, has begun testing on the Boston-New York-Washington Northeast Corridor and Philadelphia-Harrisburg Keystone Corridor in preparation for revenue-service fleet deployment this fall.
