FEC plots passenger rail service operation

Florida East Coast Industries, Inc., is developing a plan to own and operate passenger rail service between South Florida and Orlando.

RailComm names Michael Dampier VP

Fairport, N.Y.-based RailComm on Thursday announced that Michael Dampier has joined the company as vice president of Sales and Marketing. Dampier will be based in Jacksonville, Fla.

CSX Short Line Workshop excels

The 23d Annual CSX Short Line Workshop was yet another standard-setter in terms of content, delivery, and overall message. The emphasis throughout was more on customer service than the mechanical aspects of running a railroad—a welcome change. And I think CFO Fred Eliasson summed it up best when he said to the group, “A strong service product is the foundation for achieving price, productivity and growth targets.”

Genesee & Wyoming February traffic slips

Genesee & Wyoming has reported a decline of 0.6% to 72,245 carloads, traffic volume for February. GWI’s traffic in the first quarter of 2012 through February was 145,132 carloads, a decrease or 6.6% compared to the first quarter of 2011 through February.

Railway Age names 2012 Short Line of the Year, 2012 Regional Railroad of the year

Railway Age magazine has named Vermont Railway the 2012 Short Line Railroad of the Year, and the Indiana Rail Road Co. its 2012 Regional Railroad of the Year. The awards will be presented at the American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association’s annual meeting in Indianapolis, Ind., Tuesday evening, April 24, 2012.

New oil-gas rail terminal on tap for Texas

Kinder Morgan Energy Partners, L.P. and Martin Midstream Partners L.P. have formed a joint venture, Pecos Valley Producer Services LLC, to develop a rail terminal in Pecos, Tex., to serve the growing oil and natural gas industries in the Permian Basin.
