ASLRRA honors George Betke

George C. Betke, Jr., Chairman of Farmrail System, Inc., was honored with the Thomas L. Schlosser Distinguished Service Award, given on an annual basis to recognize an individual for long-term, significant service to the American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association.

FASTLANE grant applications approach $10 billion

The U.S. Department of Transportation announced on May 20, 2016 that it has received 212 applications totaling nearly $9.8 billion for grants through the newly-created Fostering Advancements in Shipping and Transportation for the Long-term Achievement of National Efficiencies (FASTLANE) grant program.

OmniTRAX affiliate acquires Heart of Texas Railroad

A managed affiliate of OmniTRAX, Inc. is purchasing the Heart of Texas Railroad (HTR) from private local investors. The transaction is subject to Surface Transportation Board approval. Terms were not disclosed.

ASLRRA installs new board leadership

The American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association (ASLRRA) installed Judy Petry, president and general manager of Farmrail System, as its new chairman. Peter Claussen, Jr., president of the Gulf & Ohio Railways, was selected as the new vice-chairman of the association, filling the role Petry previously held.

Reading and Northern wins ASLRRA Marketing Award

This is the third time Reading & Northern has won this prestigious award in the last six years. Dennis Shaffer, Vice President Business Development, accepted the award at the annual ASLRRA ceremony held in Washington D.C.
