Water Train Inc. seeks test project partners

Water Train Inc., an operating unit of Modoc Railroad, has begun solicitations of private persons, companies and municipal governments to participate in the operation of a water test train.

For New York New Jersey Rail, new KLW power

New York New Jersey Rail, LLC (NYNJR), a rail-barge short line wholly owned by the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey, has taken delivery on three new ultra-low-emissions SE10B diesel-electric switcher locomotives from Knoxville Locomotive Works (KLW). The contract, valued at $5.25 million, marks the first collaboration between the Port Authority and KLW.

TNW completes multimillion-dollar upgrade at logistics center

TNW Corporation, a privately held operator of short line railroads and logistics centers, including, TXGN and TXNW railways, has completed a multimillion-dollar upgrade at its Panhandle Logistics Center, the company announced August 10, 2015. The logistic center is located on the TXNW Railway complex in Sunray, Tex.

Iowa Pacific to operate Grenada Railway

The North Central Mississippi Regional Railroad Authority (NCMRRA) on July 30, 2015 completed its acquisition of Grenada Railway, LLC and signed a 15-year lease agreement with a subsidiary of Iowa Pacific Holdings to operate and develop new business on the line.

45G gains ground in Senate

The Senate Finance Committee on July 21, 2015 met to debate S. 637, legislation put forward by Chairman Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) to extend expiring tax credits, including the Section 45G Short Line Tax Rehabilitation railroad track maintenance credit. 45G has been publically endorsed by 38 Senators who have cosponsored S. 637, a bill by Sens. Mike Crapo (R-Idaho) and Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) to extend the credit.

Washington State provides funding for rail infrastructure projects

Three key rail infrastructure and economic development projects in the Columbia Basin—the Port of Moses Lake’s Northern Columbia Basin Railroad Project, the Port of Warden’s Rail Infrastructure Expansion Project and the Connell Rail Interchange Improvement Project—have all received funding in the 2015-17 Transportation Revenue Package that was recently passed/approved by the Washington State Legislature.
