INRD, CN win ASLRRA Marketing Award

The American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association (ASLRRA) has honored the Indiana Rail Road Company (INRD) with its 2016 Railroad Marketing Award for INRD’s successful Indiana intermodal service, which INRD operates in partnership with CN.

Conrail at 40: An experiment that worked

April 1, 1976 was a watershed day in U.S. railroading history. On that day, Consolidated Rail Corp., better known as Conrail, began operating under the auspices of the U.S. government a new railroad cobbled together from six bankrupt Northeastern carriers: Penn Central, Erie-Lackawanna, Jersey Central, Lehigh Valley, Reading, and Lehigh & Hudson River. Conrail, now 40, continues to thrive, albeit in a very different form from when it first turned a wheel.

Short Line Safety Institute fills two senior positions

The Short Line Safety Institute on March 24, 2016 announced the onboarding of two key staff members—Mike Long, Senior Safety and Operations Manager, and Michele Malski, Safety Programs Manager. These two new positions will be instrumental in driving the Institute’s key initiatives forward.

Reading & Northern names Nemeroff VP Forest Products

Reading and Northern Railroad on March 14, 2016, announced the appointment of Rian J. Nemeroff, CTL as Vice President – Forest Products. He will be responsible for managing the forest products business at the Reading & Northern, a market segment that comprises over a third of the railroad’s business. He will report to Wayne Michel, President of the railroad.
