On Jan. 16, Siemens delivered its first new S200 light rail vehicle to the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA). This is the first of the 215 LRV to arrive from Siemens’ manufacturing plant in Sacramento, Calif., en route to begin testing and service later this year.

Siemens hosted San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee and the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) for a behind-the-scenes look at the first of 215 California-built light rail vehicles currently under production at the Siemens rail manufacturing hub in Sacramento, Calif. The first SFMTA advanced technology S200 high-floor LRV is expected to arrive in San Francisco in December and will enter into final testing and commissioning prior to revenue service, scheduled for 2018.

Siemens on June 16, 2015 publicly unveiled a full-scale mockup of its new S200 SF light rail vehicle for the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA). The agency exercised an option for 40 additional LRVs under its original 175-vehicle contract, signed in September 2014 and now the largest Siemens order ever for LRVs placed in the U.S.
Siemens lands San Francisco LRV contract
San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) has awarded Siemens a $648 million contract for 175 S200-SF light rail vehicles for its Muni transit system. With an option for an additional 85 cars, this is one of the largest LRV orders ever placed in the U.S.
