ARCI: Railcar Backlog Rising

Newly released data from the Railway Supply Institute (RSI) American Railway Car Institute (ARCI) Committee shows second-quarter 2022 orders are down 13% and deliveries are up 20% sequentially. Total backlog was up 3%, to 47,461, from first-quarter 2022, and up 27% from the same period last year.

The Railway Supply Institute (RSI) has appointed Sheena Prevette Director of Regulatory and Industry Affairs. Also, Tim Hort is the new Director of Labor Relations for Transdev, a rail and streetcar, bus, paratransit, and microtransit operator.

U.S. Rep. Brad Schneider (D-Ill.; pictured, left) has reintroduced the Freight RAILCAR Act, which has 30 co-sponsors, 28 of whom are original, including Rep. Darin LaHood (R-Ill.; pictured, right).

RSI to Congress (Again): ‘Swiftly Pass’ Freight RAILCAR Act (UPDATED)

U.S. Rep. Brad Schneider (D-Ill.) has reintroduced bipartisan legislation enabling a tax credit for freight railcar owners purchasing new or refurbishing existing equipment. The Freight RAILCAR Act will “help improve the safety and efficiency of the North American railcar fleet while reducing greenhouse gas emissions and supporting thousands of manufacturing jobs up and down the supply chain across the United States,” according to the Railway Supply Institute (RSI), which is urging Congress to pass it.

Verhey to Succeed Byrne at RSI CTC

Lee Verhey will take on the Executive Director role for the Railway Supply Institute (RSI) Committee on Tank Cars (CTC), starting May 23. He succeeds RSI CTC Vice Chair John Byrne, who announced earlier this year that he would retire.

Freight Car Orders Soar: ARCI

Newly released data by the Railway Supply Institute (RSI) American Railway Car Institute Committee (ARCI) show a 50% increase in fourth-quarter 2021 freight railcar orders, compared to third-quarter 2021. The backlog increased 14%, while deliveries remained relatively flat.

Long Appointed RSI Head

The Railway Supply Institute (RSI) has appointed Patricia Long as its new President. She assumes her role effective Nov. 29. Long and her family reside in the greater Washington D.C. area; she will operate out of RSI headquarters there.
