The Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) pursues a single-source contract with Alstom. Also, the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) will begin 20% service cuts on Aug. 24; and Réseau express métropolitain (REM) service is set to resume after a six-week summer shutdown.

Washington Metropolitan Area Transportation Authority (WMATA) is officially retiring its 1980s-era equipment from Italian firm Breda (now Hitachi Rail Italy). Also, the 2024 federal budget allocates $500 million to Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority’s (SCVTA) BART Silicon Valley Extension Project in California; a new public transit development agency is eyed for Québec; and more transit-oriented development (TOD) is planned for Montréal.

Kinga Surma, Ontario’s Minister of Infrastructure, has debuted legislation proposing that municipalities fund the design and construction of new GO Transit stations, according to The Canadian Press.

Transit Briefs: GO Transit, NYPD/NYMTA, PennDOT, REM

Ontario, Canada’s Minister of Infrastructure eyes a new way of funding GO Transit stations. Also, an autonomous security robot will report for duty in the New York City Subway; Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) and Norfolk Southern (NS) finalize an agreement to expand Amtrak Pennsylvanian passenger rail service; and noise mitigation measures are being implemented on Réseau express métropolitain in Montreal.

CDPQ Infra Elevates Three Executives

Contractor CDPQ Infra (Caisse de Dépôt et Placement du Québec) has promoted Daniel Farina, Sophie Lussier and Philippe Batani to key positions on its management team, effective Sept. 5. According to the company, the move will position it well for the next phases of Montreal’s Réseau express métropolitain (REM) project and for other projects.

Sener Selected to Participate as ICE in Montreal REM

Engineering and technology group Sener has been selected to participate as the Independent Checker Engineer (ICE) on the new Montreal REM (Réseau Express Metropolitain), whose first segment between Brossard and Gare Centrale stations opened on July 31.

The Mobility Wallet allows LA Metro passengers to pay for all of the above transportation services.

The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority’s (MBTA) Ashland Station will receive $2.5 million in repairs and improvements. Also, Montreal’s Reseau express metropolitain (REM) shuts down on first official day of service; OC Transpo is still unclear as to when LRT will resume service; and LA Metro’s Mobility Wallet (MW) program provides a transportation solution for residents of South Los Angeles.
