Class II Reading & Northern Railroad (RBMN) on Jan. 6 reported breaking annual freight revenue and passenger ridership records—again.
Reading Blue Mountain & Northern (RBMN) announced Dec. 31 that it has shipped more than one million tons of Anthracite coal for the third straight year, “an impressive feat considering the downturn in export volume in 2025,” according to the privately owned Pennsylvania-based railroad.

The Reading & Northern Railroad reported that its T-1 steam locomotive, no. 2102, has successfully completed its test runs following its extensive five-year rebuild. The locomotive made a homecoming on April 6, stopping briefly at Reading Outer Station with hundreds of people looking on. It also visited Tamaqua on April 7-8, plus Nesquehoning and Jim Thorpe on April 8.

Additionally, Jacksonville, Fla.-based Patriot Rail Co. LLC is acquiring 26-mile Salt Lake Garfield & Western Railway (SLGW) in Utah and its storage and transload service providers, Caballero LLC and Caballero 2 LLC. As well, Reading & Northern Railroad (RBMN) opened a new transload facility for a Delta, Ohio-based steel mill.
Reading and Northern Railroad (R&N) recently added to its Coal Marketing department as Karl Laubenstine has joined the team as VP – Coal Marketing and Sales, effective July 20, 2020. In his new position, Laubenstine reports to Bill Clark, Senior VP Coal Marketing.
The American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association (ASLRRA) has named Reading & Northern Railroad (R&N) the winner of its 2020 Short Line Marketing Award. This is the fifth time that R&N has been honored with the award, winning previously in 2010, 2014, 2016 and 2018.
