Wabtec lands Alaska Railroad PTC contracts

The Alaska Railroad has awarded the Railway Electronics division of Wabtec Corp. $16.6 million worth of contracts to provide PTC (positive train control) equipment and services, including CAD (computer-aided dispatch) and back office systems. The systems will be installed on the railroad’s 525 miles of controlled track, which are used for freight and regularly scheduled passenger service.

BNSF cites good 4Q, full-year results

BNSF has reported operating income for the fourth quarter of 2013 of $1.88 billion, up 15% from $164 billion in income in the fourth quarter of 2012. Income for the full year of 2013 was $6.67 billion, up 11% from $6.0 billion in 2012.

Sound Transit taps Wabtec for PTC

Wilmerding, Pa.-based Wabtec Corp. said Monday, Dec. 16, 2013 it has signed a $34 million contract with Seattle’s Sound Transit to design, install, test, and commission a Positive Train Control (PTC) system on the agency’s regional rail line.
