Caterpillar’s Haycraft to Retire

Caterpillar Inc. announced on Oct. 24 that Marty Haycraft, Caterpillar Senior Vice President and President and CEO of Progress Rail, a Caterpillar Company, will retire at the end of 2022 after 32 years of service. He will be succeeded by John Newman.

Progress Rail to Supply BNSF with Zero Exhaust Emission Locomotives

Progress Rail (a Caterpillar Company) announced on Sept. 23 that it is supplying up to four EMD® Joule battery electric locomotives to BNSF Railway (BNSF). Supported in part by grant funding, the locomotives, to be delivered in 2024, would replace BNSF diesel units operating in Southern California, with charging systems for continuous operation.

Happy 100th Anniversary, EMD®!

Caterpillar Inc. on Aug. 31 marked the 100th anniversary of EMD®. Founded as Electro-Motive Engineering Corporation, EMD is now a product brand of Progress Rail, a Caterpillar company.

Solvay recently embarked on a $92 million project to invest in purpose-built railcar fleet over the next three years.

Solvay, UP Partner to Reduce Soda Ash Carbon Footprint

Belgium-based chemical company Solvay announced Aug. 26 that, with Union Pacific (UP), it has invested in a purpose-built railcar fleet to reduce the carbon footprint of every railcar of soda ash (or sodium carbonate), “the 10th most consumed inorganic compound in the world and a base ingredient for lass and detergent manufacturers,” shipped from the company’s Green River, Wyo., plant.
