Progress Rail, a Caterpillar company, has developed a new battery-powered switcher locomotive, the EMD® Joule, working in collaboration with its South American customer Vale. Progress Rail anticipates global availability of the new switcher locomotive in early 2021.

Progress Rail: More GT38ACs for PT KAI

Progress Rail, a Caterpillar company, has signed a contract with PT Kereta Indonesia (PT KAI) for 36 new EMD® GT38AC freight locomotives, expanding the public railway operator’s existing GT Series fleet. Progress Rail anticipates delivery of the locomotives in late 2021.

Progress Rail to Acquire Cleveland Track Material

Progress Rail, a Caterpillar company, has signed an agreement to acquire Vossloh North America subsidiary Cleveland Track Material (CTM). With facilities located in Cleveland, Ohio; Reading, Pa.; and Memphis, Tenn.; CTM has served as a supplier of specialty trackwork to North American Class I and transit railroads since 1983.

Metra: Remanufactured Progress Rail power

Chicago’s Metra has awarded a $70.9 million contract to Progress Rail for 15 remanufactured and repurposed diesel-electric locomotives to modernize its ageing fleet. The contract includes options for up to 27 additional units, which will be purchased if funding becomes available.
