ITS Logistics issues its December U.S. Port/Rail Ramp Freight Index. Also, the Appalachian Regional Port, a joint effort of the State of Georgia, Murray County, Georgia Ports Authority (GPA), and CSX, logs its busiest November on record.

Intermodal Briefs: Port NOLA, Port of Savannah, Port Everglades

The Port of New Orleans (Port NOLA) highlights “growth, resilience, and significant impact” at the 2025 State of the Port Address. Also, Port of Savannah container volumes were up 4% through October; and Port Everglades’ 2024 Master/Vision Plan Update is approved by the Broward County Commission.

September volumes are up 8% at Georgia Ports Authority’s Port of Savannah. Also, Tanco Terminals is expanding its liquid barge facility at the Ports of Indiana-Jeffersonville, where it provides marine, rail ,and truck access for liquid asphalt and fertilizer products.

Port of Savannah Container Volumes Up 9% in August

The Port of Savannah on Sept. 30 announced that it handled 534,037 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) in August, an increase of 44,000 TEUs, or 9% year-over-year, “representing the third highest month in the Georgia Ports Authority (GPA) history. Container volumes were 1,010,725 TEUs fiscal year-to-date through August, 3.2% higher than last year.

Port of Savannah: Busiest March on Record

The Port of Savannah, Ga., handled 534,000 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) in March, rising 22.5% or 98,000 TEUs from the prior-year period and representing a second consecutive monthly record, Georgia Ports Authority (GPA) reported April 3. In intermodal cargo, it noted, Savannah set an all-time record of 52,645 containers moved by rail, a 17% gain over the same month last year.

“Even in a challenging year [2024], we still found a way to grow by 12.5%, and I think one conclusion we can draw here is that connectivity is key,” Lynch told an audience of more than 1,700 Georgia business leaders and elected officials on Feb. 25, according to GPA.

For GPA, Containers Up, Capacity Growing

Small-Road Briefs: G&W, Watco

The Georgia Ports Authority (GPA) receives a $26.5 million federal grant for the Colonel’s Island Rail Improvements project, which is supported by Genesee & Wyoming (G&W). Also, Watco helps bring a building materials customer to Oklahoma and lands three awards for rail infrastructure projects.
