NJ transport chief urges no PATH cutbacks

If New Jersey’s transportation commissioner gets his way, no cutbacks will occur to PATH overnight service linking the Garden State and Manhattan, despite a report commissioned by the governors of New Jersey and New York recommending such cutbacks be evaluated.

PATH airport extension study awarded to HNTB

The Port Authority of New York & New Jersey on Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2014 awarded a three-year, $6 million contract to HNTB to conduct a cost determination study on the proposed extension of PATH (Port Authority Trans-Hudson) rapid transit service to Newark Liberty International Airport.

William J. Ronan, generally acknowledged as the architect of the New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority, and who served as its first chairman, died on Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2014 at his home in West Palm Beach, Fla. He was 101.

Calatravasaurus Wrecks?

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey’s massive World Trade Center PATH transportation hub in Lower Manhattan, designed by famed architect Santiago Calatrava, is about one year away from completion—eight years behind schedule and, at a cost of up to $4 billion by some accounts, $2 billion over budget. The New York Post has dubbed the structure, which is supposed to resemble a bird spreading its wings, but which at this stage of construction looks more like the dinosaur exhibit at the American Museum of Natural History, the “Calatravasaurus.”
