NYCT VakTrak due for overhaul

After years of sucking up tons of track debris from the underground portions of the subway system, one of MTA New York City Transit’s (NYCT) two vacuum trains is receiving an extensive late-life overhaul and upgrade aimed at improving efficiency, increasing reliability, and easing maintenance tasks.

FTA releases comprehensive CBTC study

The Federal Transit Administration has published a Rail Transit Signal and Control Systems Research paper that provides “a comprehensive evaluation of CBTC technology.” The research project was conducted by Alan Rumsey, Lori Colangelo, and Nigel Astell of Delcan Corp. and Nabil Ghaly of New York Rail Technology, PE PC.
