NICTD President Mike Noland to Retire

Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District (NICTD) President Mike Noland announced his upcoming retirement during a board meeting last week, according to a WVPE 88.1 news report.

Metra Approves $1.2B Operating Budget for 2026

The Metra Board of Directors on Nov. 13 approved a $1.2 billion operating budget for 2026 that relies on new state funding and requires no fare increases or service cuts. The Board also approved a $515.3 million capital plan that, the agency says, “continues major investments in bridges, stations, and new and rehabilitated rolling stock.”

INDOT Developing 2025 State Rail Plan

The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) is seeking public input on the development of a 2025 State Rail Plan. The SRP—encompassing Class I’s/IIs/IIIs, Amtrak, Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District and five tourist railroads—will outline freight and passenger rail planning activities that the department said will “achieve the state’s objective to provide a safe, efficient, and convenient transportation system” and guide future investment decisions. Feedback is due Sept. 10.

TCU, CSX Reach Local Agreement; BMWED-ID Ratifies New NICTD Agreement

The Transportation Communications Union (TCU) reaches a local agreement with CSX Transportation. Also, the Burlington System Division of the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employes Division-International Brotherhood of Teamsters (BMWED-ID) ratifies a new agreement with the Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District (NICTD).
