Industrial Development Briefs: TETL, UP/Heartland Co-op, NCRR

Twin Eagle Terminals & Logistics (TETL) completes a 2,000-foot track expansion at its Big Spring, Texas, terminal. Also, Union Pacific (UP) and Heartland Co-op celebrate the first train loading at the new Millerton, Iowa, facility; and the North Carolina Railroad Company (NCRR) invests $600,000 to advance industry in Hertford County.

NCRR Opens Fall 2025 Build Ready Sites Grant Round

The North Carolina Railroad Company (NCRR) recently announced that it is now accepting applications for the Fall 2025 round of its Build Ready Sites Program (BRS). The competitive grant initiative helps communities prepare rail-served industrial sites for future development and job creation. Applications are being accepted until Monday, Oct. 17.

NCRR Awards First Brownfields Site Grants

The North Carolina Railroad Company (NCRR) announced Sept 4 that it has awarded its Brownfield Site Grant to Jackson County and a second to the Town of Spencer. The program provides local governments with private funding “to address environmental barriers, preparing rail-served properties for new industrial uses that attract investment and create lasting jobs.”

Transit Briefs: Amtrak, MBTA, NYMTA

A new station in Hillsborough, N.C., is expected to expand Amtrak access. Also, the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) releases an Android version of its Go Mobile app; and the New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) completes a brand-new staircase and passageway to the Flushing Line platform and widened staircases at Grand Central Terminal.

NCRR, NC State Team on Grade Crossing Safety Training

A $3 million Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) grant will go toward planning a new training and education program in North Carolina that’s aimed at improving safety and reducing accidents at highway/rail grade crossings.
