NJT Sets FY26 Ops Budget, Authorizes Capex Funding

The New Jersey Transit (NJT) Board of Directors on July 17 adopted the agency’s Fiscal Year (FY) 2026 operating budget of approximately $3.16 billion, plus the local program budget of nearly $80.5 million; it also authorized capital funding of approximately $1.7 billion for FY26.

Labor Negotiations Advance at NJ Transit (UPDATED 5/12)

New Jersey Transit (NJ Transit) and its largest union, the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU), on May 7 reported reaching a “fair and fiscally responsible” tentative agreement. Meanwhile, the National Mediation Board has called the agency and the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen (BLET) to meet in Washington, D.C., ahead of a potential May 16 work stoppage.

“We appreciate the efforts of the Oregon Legislature to assemble a package that balances funding for all modes of transportation,” TriMet reported April 17. “However, the amount of funding for public transit currently being proposed is not enough to avoid service cuts.” (TriMet Photograph)

New Jersey Transit (NJT) unveils a specially wrapped locomotive in recognition of Autism Acceptance Month, and will install new faregates at Secaucus Junction and Newark Liberty International Airport stations. Also, the New York MTA (Metropolitan Transportation Authority) issues a “reimagined” subway map; and San Diego Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) is installing new digital signs at the Trolley’s Orange Line stations.

“Between improved reliability, safety enhancements, and amenities, R211 cars will make a world of difference for G train riders,” MTA NYCT President Demetrius Crichlow said March 4. “The R211 [rapid transit] cars are state of the art and less prone to breakdowns, which means smoother trips and more reliable service for decades to come.” The cars operate with an open gangway; NYCT debuted them on the C line in 2024.
