Railway Age honors Prendergast as Railroader of the Year
Former New York MTA Chairman and CEO Tom Prendergast was honored as Railway Age’s 54th Railroader of the Year at a dinner of the Western Railway Club on March 14 at the historic Union League Club, Chicago.
Irick named Acting NYCT President
Interim MTA Executive Director Ronnie Hakim on Feb. 2 named Darryl C. Irick Acting President of MTA New York City Transit (NYCT).
Firms qualified to bid on LIRR third track
The Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) and New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) on Feb. 2 announced the list of construction firms deemed qualified to bid on the LIRR Expansion Project.
Hakim, Ferrer named NYMTA interim heads
New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority Chairman and CEO Tom Prendergast, Railway Age’s2017 Railroader of the Year, retires today (Jan. 31) and passes the reins, at least temporarily, to New York City Transit President Veronique “Ronnie” Hakim, named Interim Executive Director. MTA Board Vice Chairman Fernando Ferrer becomes Acting Chairman.
NYCT Kings Highway Interlocking upgrade awarded to L.K. Comstock
The New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority has awarded a $98 million contract to RailWorks Corp. subsidiary L.K. Comstock & Company Inc., to upgrade the MTA New York City Transit Kings Highway Interlocking plant on the Culver (F) Line/IND 6th Avenue Line in Brooklyn, N.Y.
Fitch gives NYMTA high marks
Fitch Ratings has assigned an “A” rating to the New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s (MTA) approximately $200 million in series 2017A (Climate Bond Certified) transportation revenue bonds, and an “F1” rating to the MTA’s series 2017A transportation revenue bond anticipation notes (BANs), in an amount up to $700 million.
NYMTA awards L.K. Comstock QBL signaling contract
The New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) has awarded a $223.3 million contract to L.K. Comstock & Company Inc. to upgrade the New York City Transit Queens Boulevard Line (QBL) signaling system and install communications-based train control (CBTC).
Second Avenue Subway open for business
New Year’s Day, 2017: Nearly 88 years after the first bond issue was floated to finance construction of a subway under Second Avenue on New York City’s East Side, the first MTA New York City Transit Q Trains began rolling between 63rd and 96th Streets on the Second Avenue Subway. Thousands attended the inauguration of service.
