The New Orleans Regional Transit Authority (RTA) names Brian Marshall as Chief Transit Officer. Also, the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority’s (SEPTA) first female locomotive engineer, Jacqueline Y. Pettyjohn, retires after 40 years; and HDR’s Ed Kane is promoted to Transportation Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Facilities Design Director.

The Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) further increases service and revises schedules. Also, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey’s (PANYNJ) PATH commuter rail system records its busiest July 4th since 2013; CapMetro launches a newly formed Transit Police Department; and the New Orleans Regional Transit Authority (RTA) finalizes a Cooperative Endeavor Agreement (CEA) with the City of New Orleans for the agency’s Opportunity Pass pilot program.

FTA Awards $343MM for Station Accessibility Projects

The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) on May 28 reported that eight transit systems in eight states will share $343 million to make their rail stations “more accessible and in line with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards” by installing elevators, renovating platforms for level boarding, improving signage, and improving visual and audio systems.

Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LACMTA) is implementing a permanent fare structure for its first/last-mile service. Also, Southern California’s Metrolink resumes the Angels Express after a four-year hiatus; New Orleans Regional Transit Authority (NORTA) is working to restore the Rampart Streetcar Line; and Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) launches an enhanced fare compliance campaign.

New Orleans Celebrates Streetcar Centennial

In an unusually low-key celebration for the Crescent City, the New Orleans Regional Transit Authority (RTA) held a block party and conducted tours of its historic Carrollton Barn in the Riverbend section

New Orleans Regional Transit Authority (RTA) on Sept. 7 reported the ratification of a new four-year agreement with International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 1700-4.
