WMATA 7000-Series Cars to Return This Summer

Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) has reported that its 7000-series railcars are on schedule to resume service “later this summer,” after being sidelined last year due to a derailment.

MxV Rail Breaks Ground on First Test Loop

Construction is under way at MxV Rail’s new railroad testing facility at the PuebloPlex campus in Colorado, which is set to open this fall.

Long-Travel Draft System Impact Testing

RAILWAY AGE, MAY 2022 ISSUE: Under the Association of American Railroads (AAR) Strategic Research Initiatives (SRI) program, MxV Rail (formerly TTCI) is conducting research to characterize, evaluate and improve the performance of long-travel draft systems. Draft systems protect railcars as coupler forces are transmitted through a train by controlling relative motion between coupled cars and absorbing energy during impacts.

MxV Rail will continue to lead the Strategic Research Initiatives (SRI) program, “an important industry effort that aims to improve all aspects of rail transportation,” AAR President and CEO Ian Jefferies reported on March 15.

TTCI: New Name, Same Aim

The Association of American Railroads (AAR) on March 15 reported that its wholly owned subsidiary, the Transportation Technology Center, Inc., has a new name: MxV Rail.
