Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) releases its annual Sustainability Report. Also, the majority of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey’s (PANYNJ) PATH riders are now using the commuter rail’s new tap-and-go fare payment system; and the New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s (MTA) Metro-North Railroad unveils its fifth heritage locomotive.

Also, Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) approves a new strategic plan; the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) hits an average weekday ridership of one million in May; the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) announces the return of the historic Presidents’ Conference Committee (PCC) Trolleys to Route 15; and Metra awards contracts to rebuild 95th St./Chicago State University Station.

New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority (NYMTA) unveils its Climate Resiliency Roadmap. Also, Washington’s Central Puget Sound Regional Transit Authority (Sound Transit) earns a sustainability award for its Federal Way Link light rail extension; metro-Vancouver’s TransLink approves a 2024 investment plan to address overcrowding; and the final sections of Mexico’s Tren Maya project are expected to be completed in August.

Metro-North to Pilot Automated Railcar Inspection

The New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) will use a $2 million federal grant to test an automated railcar inspection system on its commuter railroad in New York and Connecticut, which it said will provide “early detections of existing and future defects, allowing conditions to be addressed immediately, reducing repair and replacement time.”
