In a welcome departure from past weeks, U.S. freight carload traffic for the week ending May 26, 2012 notched an increase, up 1.3% measured against the comparable week in 2011, the Association of American Railroads (AAR) reported Thursday.
U.S. freight carload traffic for the week ending May 19, 2012 was down 5.0% measured against the comparable week in 2011, the Association of American Railroads said Thursday, continuing a trend. But U.S. intermodal volume for the same week kept its own trend going, up 3.1% compared with volume one year ago.

U.S. freight carload traffic fell 5.2% from levels recorded in the same week one year ago, while U.S. intermodal volume notched another weekly gain, up 3.1%, compared with the same week in 2011.
