Transit Briefs: MARTA, Ottawa LRT, SARTA

A new Brookhaven, Ga., City Hall will be built on Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) property near the city’s Gold Line rail station. Also, the 18-day Ottawa Light Rail Transit Public Inquiry began June 13; and Stark Area Regional Transit Authority (SARTA) is exploring streetcar service connecting downtown Canton, Ohio, with the Akron-Canton airport.

Transit Budget Briefs: BART, MARTA

The San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit District (BART) Board has approved an operating and capital budget for Fiscal Year 2023 and a proposed budget for FY 2024, including a 3.4% fare increase. Also, the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) Board has adopted a FY23 budget.

Chicago Transit Authority’s (CTA) Pride Train returned to service this month. Also, Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LACMTA) has earned a Transportation Security Administration award; Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) is establishing a farm in DeKalb County, Ga.; and a new group of subway train operators completed training at New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA).

MARTA and Goldman Sachs are working together on an initiative that finances new affordable housing and transit-oriented development near the agency’s 38 heavy rail stations and 12 Atlanta Streetcar light rail stops.

Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) and the Goldman Sachs Urban Investment Group have doubled the funding for their affordable housing and transit-oriented development (TOD) initiative. Also, Southern California’s Metrolink is adding 26 trains to its regional/commuter rail schedule; and Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) is launching an institutional pass program to boost ridership.

Last fall, MARTA riders and potential riders cast their votes for the exterior design of the agency’s new railcars. The “Minimalist: Option A” (pictured above) won by a narrow margin.

MARTA Reveals New Railcar Exterior Design

The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) riders have spoken. The transit agency on Jan. 12 unveiled their exterior graphic-design choice for the 254 rapid transit cars that will start arriving from Stadler in 2023.
