Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) selects HNTB to provide rail vehicle professional services. Also, Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) launches an online capital-project tracking tool; and Tri-County Metropolitan Transportation District of Oregon (TriMet) readies for its two-week East Burnside MAX Improvements Project.

MBTA is adjusting commuter rail and bus service on April 19-20 for celebrations in Massachusetts marking the 250th anniversary of the start of the American Revolution. It provided the rendering above of special commuter railcar wraps.

Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) shares its service plans for Massachusetts 250 celebrations. Also, Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) executes financial transactions that will “generate substantial savings and increase the Authority’s liquidity by hundreds of millions of dollars”; and Broward County Transit (BCT) in Plantation, Fla., sets public meetings for its Broward Commuter Rail North project.

MARTA Taps Stadler for CBTC

The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) has awarded Stadler Signaling North America a $500 million contract to equip its rapid transit network with Stadler’s NOVA Pro CBTC (communications-based train control) technology.

San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) is forming a working group to address projected deficits for Municipal Railway (Muni). Also, Transport Canada is requiring VIA Rail to update its emergency management action plan after riders were stranded on an intercity passenger train; Brightline, Florida’s private-sector passenger railroad, now allows travel agents and others to book its rail service with flights; Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority’s (MARTA) Atlanta headquarters earns Energy Star Certification by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA); and Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation’s (HART) CEO receives a new multi-year contract.
