Stantec, Jacobs JV Selected for Toronto Projects

Infrastructure Ontario (IO) and Metrolinx have awarded the 360 Transit Alliance Joint Venture, comprising Stantec and Jacobs, a program control services contract for four TTC (Toronto Transit Commission) projects, valued at C$28.5 billion (US$22.07 billion).

Stantec Lead Technical Advisor for Hurontario LRT

Metrolinx and Infrastructure Ontario (IO) have selected global design firm Stantec to provide technical advisory services for the 11-mile, 19-station Hurontario Light Rail Transit project, which will link the GO Transit Lakeshore West Line Port Credit regional rail station in Mississauga with Brampton Gateway Terminal. The project also includes an OMS (operations, maintenance and storage) facility at Highway 407.

Eglinton Crosstown Behind Schedule

Toronto’s 12-mile Eglinton Avenue Crosstown LRT project is in danger of not opening until seven months past the announced date (Sept. 30, 2021), and is exceeding its budget by more than C$330 million.

Ford cancels Hamilton LRT

Doug Ford, the Province of Ontario’s Progressive Conservative Premier, has axed Hamilton’s DBFOM (design, build, finance, operate, maintain) B-Line light rail project, only months after he said publicly that the system was a go, and included in the Province’s budget.

Metrolinx Mulls UP Express Changes

Metrolinx, the Toronto-area regional transit agency, is considering major changes to Union Pearson Express, the GO Transit rail service between Pearson Airport and Toronto Union Station. These involve possibly relocating the existing terminal at Union Station, and replacing the present 18 DMU cars that operate in two and three car trains, according to an agency planning document.

Thales SelTrac™ selected for Finch West LRT

Mosaic Transit Group (MTG) has awarded Thales a contract for a SelTrac™ Communications Based Train Control (CBTC) signaling system for the new Finch West LRT in northwest Toronto. MTG’s contract is a DBFM (design, build, finance, maintain) project awarded by Metrolinx, with the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) as operator. The project is slated for completion and revenue service in 2023, and includes a 30-year maintenance service contract that will be performed by MTG.
