Transit Briefs: MBTA, Metrolinx

Phase 3 of the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority’s (MBTA) major signal modernization on the Red Line at Columbia Junction begins. Also, the MBTA expands real-time transit information into community libraries; and Metrolinx extends its partnership with Alstom.

Transit Briefs: SEPTA, Metra, OCTA, Alto HSR Project

The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) reaches a tentative contract agreement with Transport Workers Union (TWU) 234. Also, Metra’s Operation North Pole (ONP) Christmas train returns to the rails, and the agency opens its online merchandise store; the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) releases the 2025 update of its Next 10 Delivery Plan; and Alto’s Toronto-Quebec City HSR (high-speed rail) project likely won’t connect to Union Station.

Transit Briefs: San Diego MTS, MDOT MTA/MARC, REM, Metrolinx

The San Diego Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) and the San Diego Housing Fund partner to deliver transit-oriented affordable housing in East Village. Also, the Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Transit Administration (MDOT MTA) will provide free MARC service to federal workers during the federal government shutdown; the Réseau express métropolitain’s (REM) Deux-Montagnes branch will begin service on Nov. 17; and Metrolinx enters into an Agreement-in-Principle to purchase a portion of track owned by CN between Bramalea and Georgetown GO stations.

Transit Briefs: Brightline, SunRail, Calgary Airport Rail Connection, Metrolinx

Brightline partners with Porter Airlines to offer travelers a special promotion. Also, Central Florida municipalities are now paying for SunRail operations; Calgary releases its preferred route for the proposed Calgary Airport Rail Connection; and Premier Doug Ford directs Metrolinx to study expanding GO Transit service along the Kitchner and Milton lines by diverting freight rail lines.

Metrolinx reaches a major vehicle testing milestone on the Finch West Light Rail Transit (LRT) project. Also, LA Metro’s Board votes to approve certification of the final Environmental Impact Report (EIR) for the Eastside Transit Corridor Phase 2 project; Sound Transit introduces a new fare inspection process; Jacobs is selected to provide program management services for Broward County Transportation’s first public transit expansion; and the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) unveils renderings for the rehabilitation of the Western Brown Line Station.
