Connecticut electrification bill’s impact doubted

Both houses of Connecticut’s state legislature have unanimously passed a bill calling for electrification of Metro-North Railroad’s Waterbury Branch and the Danbury Branch by 2023, bolstering access between Waterbury, Conn., and New York’s Grand Central Terminal.

New Haven Line set to reopen

Expediting repairs on 2,000 feet of right-of-way, including track restoration, reinstalled signals, and catenary replacement, Metro-North said it expects to restore full service on its New Haven Line on Wednesday, May 22. Amtrak Northeast Corridor service between Boston and New York also is expected to resume Wednesday.

New York MTA gets $193 million in Sandy aid

The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) are awarding New York’s Metropolitan Transportation Authority $193.1 million in Hurricane Sandy recovery funds, including initial reimbursement costs incurred by New York City Transit, Long Island Rail Road, and Metro-North Railroad during preparation for the storm.

Metro-North plans for Penn Station access

MTA Metro-North Railroad could make access to Manhattan’s Pennsylvania Station an official priority in its next five-year capital construction program to be released in 2014, despite decades of obstructions confronting the railroad.

New York MTA approves fare hike

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority Wednesday approved fare hikes for New York City Transit subways and buses, Metro-North Railroad, and the Long Island Rail Road. Fares increase next March 1.
