Chicagoland’s Metra has awarded Progress Rail Services Corp. a $91.1 million contract to rehabilitate 41 EMD F40PH-2 and F40PHM-2 locomotives to “like new” condition. The locomotives were manufactured between 1989 and 1992.
Chicagoland’s Metra said Friday, Jan. 23, 2015 it will postpone a plan to increase the penalty for onboard ticket purchases until mobile ticketing capability is activated unveiled later this year.
Throughout its three decades of existence, Chicagoland’s Metra regional rail service has resisted the widespread adaptation of “fixed-seat” consists by other North American transit agencies, arguing that its customers prefer the choice of facing forward (or backward) on rides and, as well, that such choice poses little danger to riders obeying railroad safety rules.

Chicagoland’s Metra announced Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2014 that it is revising its “Bikes on Trains” policy to replace bans during exceptionally busy periods with “warning dates,” in which bicycles will be allowed but owners will be cautioned that crowded conditions could prevent Metra from accommodating an initial or return trip.
Metra said Monday, Sept. 8, 2014 that its Union Pacific West Line riders will see alterations to midday and weekend train schedules when a major rail replacement for the line project gets under way next Monday, Sept. 15.
