Metra, Chicagoland’s regional passenger rail service provider, says it is just more than halfway through a $115 million program to overhaul a total of 176 rail cars (79 cab cars and 97 trailer cars) originally built by Amerail between 1995 and 1998.
Metra has won a local Silver Addy Award from the American Advertising Federation, honoring the agency’s digital billboard touting the Chicagoland regional rail system as the area’s “Real Expressway.”
Chicagoland’s Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) Board of Directors, has adopted a 2013 Regional Transit Strategic Plan, charting RTA’s investment during the next five years.
Chicago-based Metra Wednesday touted the arrival of the first four “Highliner” cars on the property, built by Nagoya, Japan-based Nippon Sharyo, in conjunction with Sumitomo Corp. of America.
