Metra seeks bids for Chicago bridge project

Chicago’s Metra transit agency is seeking bids for the next phase of the multi-year Union Pacific North bridge project, which will replace 100-year-old bridges over 11 streets on the North Side of Chicago, as well as construct the inbound half of the new Ravenswood Station.

F40PH-3s riding Metra rails

The first of 41 Metra F40PH locomotives rebuilt under a $91 million remanufacturing contract has returned to service. Now designated as F40PH-3s, these units, features the railroad’s new paint scheme previously applied to F59PHs.

Metra puts double-deck coach procurement on ice

Chicago area commuter rail operator Metra announced August 9, 2016 that due to changes in the availability of capital required to fund its $2.4 billion modernization plan, the agency has temporarily suspended its search for a vendor to supply 367 double-deck gallery-style coaches.

NARP honors Metra Senior Manager with Burch Memorial Safety Award

The National Association of Railroad Passengers (NARP) honored Shamonda Jones, Senior Manager of Metra Commuter Rail in Chicago, with the Dr. Gary Burch Memorial Award during NARP’s April 12th congressional reception. Jones was nominated by Metra’s leadership for her dedication to fostering a culture of safety among the 40 dispatchers who ensure the safety of the 300,000-plus passengers who ride Metra every day.
