The Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Transit Administration (MDOT MTA) launches a new MARC train student fare program. Also, Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) holds off on issuing new debt before November 2026; and Pittsburgh Regional Transit (PRT) launches an American Sign Language (ASL) interpreting service.

Transit Briefs: MDOT MTA, Phoenix Valley Metro, Metrolink, Metra

The Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Transit Administration (MDOT MTA) releases an updated regional transit plan. Also, a recent customer service survey highlights security progress across Valley Metro’s Phoenix, Ariz.-based system; and Southern California’s Metrolink and Chicagoland’s Metra commuter railroads are rolling out holiday trains.

The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) will modernize its entire fare collection system. Also, Tri-Rail will end $5 rideshare voucher program; DC Streetcar service will end on March 31, 2026; the Denver Regional Transportation District (RTD) restricts advertisements on train windows; the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) launches a new transit incentive to encourage Baltimore-area commuters to try transit; the Sacramento Regional Transit District (SacRT) invests $1 million in its safety and security program; the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey’s (PANYNJ) PATH commuter rail achieves its second-busiest month since the pandemic; and TransLink celebrates 30 years of the West Coast Express.

Transit Briefs: San Diego MTS, MDOT MTA/MARC, REM, Metrolinx

The San Diego Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) and the San Diego Housing Fund partner to deliver transit-oriented affordable housing in East Village. Also, the Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Transit Administration (MDOT MTA) will provide free MARC service to federal workers during the federal government shutdown; the Réseau express métropolitain’s (REM) Deux-Montagnes branch will begin service on Nov. 17; and Metrolinx enters into an Agreement-in-Principle to purchase a portion of track owned by CN between Bramalea and Georgetown GO stations.

CTA’s two 4000-series Heritage cars ran on Oct. 1 in celebration of its anniversary. Also, Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Transit Administration (MDOT MTA) launches a mobile safety app for riders; and the Transit-Friendly Employer program at Metro Vancouver’s TransLink reaches a milestone.

Also, Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) unveils its Cab Cam series, showcasing the agency’s entire system in 4K; Denver Regional Transportation District’s (RTD) transit police uses virtual reality technology to build upon real world technical skills; Caltrain installs digital displays at South Santa Clara County stations; and Gatekeeper announces a C$27 million Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) transit video project with New York Metropolitan Authority’s (MTA) Long Island Rail Road (LIRR).
