Atlanta, MARTA to jointly operate streetcar

Choosing an option preferred by some other U.S. cities redeploying streetcars within their borders, Atlanta on Tuesday, May 13, 2014 said it would share direct operational responsibility of its new streetcar line. Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) will partner in the effort.

MARTA weighs North Fulton County extension

Atlanta orders four Siemens streetcars

Siemens Industry, Inc. announced Thursday that it will supply Atlanta with four new streetcars under a $17.2 million contract from the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority on behalf of the City of Atlanta and the Atlanta Downtown Improvement District. The first car is to be delivered in September 2012 with revenue service beginning in early 2013—the first streetcars to roll in Atlanta since 1949. The order marks Siemens’ entry inthe U. S. streetcar market.

Atlanta OKs streetcar purchase funds

The Atlanta City Council moved forward with planning the Atlanta streetcar project by voting to approve $9 million to buy new streetcar vehicles and approving a construction contract with MARTA, said Duriya Farooqui, Atlanta’s deputy chief operating officer.
