NS facilitates $5.7 billion in 2014 industrial investment

Norfolk Southern assisted 94 industries in locating or expanding their businesses along its rail lines in 2014. The 72 new and 22 expanded industries “represent an investment of $5.7 billion by our customers and are expected to create more than 4,420 new jobs in the railroad’s territory, generating more than 205,000 carloads of new rail traffic annually,” NS said.

CSX re-opens Chicago Locomotive Shop

CSX on Dec. 18, 2014 celebrated the re-opening of the Chicago Locomotive Shop at Barr Yard in Riverdale, Ill. The historic facility, which had been shut down in 1992, reopened in November 2104 following significant upgrades and will be fully operational in February 2015. CSX said it “will improve operational efficiency throughout the western and northern segments of our network.”

Gooden, Mongeau, Elliott headline MARS Winter Meeting

Safety, service, and schedule, “some of the most challenging issues currently facing businesses that ship goods via railroad,” will be the focus at the Jan. 14-15, 2015 Winter Meeting of the Midwest Association of Rail Shippers (MARS), which will feature key executives from CSX. CN, the Surface Transportation Board, and the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration, among other top rail industry professionals.

CSX opens Montreal intermodal terminal

CSX has opened its new Valleyfield Intermodal Terminal in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield near Montreal, Quebec, expanding the railroad’s intermodal network capacity and offering Canadian customers domestic and international service that connects with the its 21,000 mile U.S. network.
