Invensys Rail Corp. announces PTC acquisition

Invensys Rail Corp. has acquired privately held PHW, Inc. from the current owner/managers for up to $24 million. Invensys says the acquisition was completed May 10. Pittsburgh-based PHW, Inc. will operate as a wholly owned subsidiary of Invensys Rail Corp.

Amtrak reorganizes Operations management

Amtrak Friday unveiled its long-anticipated reorganization of its Operations management structure, saying it has created “four business lines to establish clear accountability for the financial performance of individual trains and to improve customer service delivery.” The Operations reorganization plan will be rolled out in phases during the next 16 months, with full transition to the new structure in October 2013.

CN revamps senior marketing team

Jean-Jacques Ruest, CN’s executive vice-president and chief marketing officer, has announced changes within CN’s senior marketing team that he says “will help us maintain our forward momentum and continue to build on our track record of operational and service excellence”. He said the changes are effective immediately.

Teamsters weigh strike against CP

The general committees of the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference (TCRC), representing the conductors, trainmen, yardmen, locomotive engineers and rail traffic controllers employed by Canadian Pacific Railway, announced Thursday they have been authorized by their membership to launch a strike against CP as early as late May.

RailAmerica: Operating income up 57%

RailAmerica, Inc. reported late Wednesday that first-quarter revenue increased 15% to $143.4 million from $124.9 million in the first quarter last year. 2011. Freight revenue increased 10% to $107.8 million with average revenue per car up 7% and carloads up 3%. Non-freight revenue increased 30% to $35.6 million.

Oklahoma short line gets trackage rights

The Surface Transportation Board Wednesday announced approval of a trackage rights exemption sought be WFEC Railroad Co. “to grant limited nonexclusive overhead trackage rights to Kiamichi Railroad LLC (KRR), over its entire line” of roughly 15 miles.

Norfolk Southern honored for carbon reduction

The American Carbon Registry has presented Norfolk Southern its Corporate Excellence award for “making a public commitment to reducing CO2 emissions 10% below 2009 levels by 2014 and for reaching nearly 40%t of that five-year goal in the first year,” the railroad announced Tuesday.

NS plans yard expansion in Ohio

Norfolk Southern announced that it will begin a $160 million expansion of its Bellevue rail yard in northern Ohio this month, doubling the yard’s capacity.
